Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction or ED as it is most commonly referred to affects over 30 million men in the United States.  It is the most common complaints reported to doctors.  As detailed on our conditions page, Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is indicated when you routinely cannot get an erection with sex.  The good news is that there are treatments available.

Erectile dysfunction can be a result of different causes from physical causes to psychological ones.  We will perform a complete assessment to help determine what can be causing ED for you.  We will try non-invasive treatments at first if indicated.  This may include changes to your diet or lifestyle.

If none of those work then additional treatments may be necessary such as medications and other treatments.  A newer treatment for ED is called shockwave therapy or low-intensity, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (Li-ESWT).  Shockwave therapy has been around a long time.  Applying it to ED symptoms is relatively new.  The idea is that subjecting the penis to these low intensity shockwaves promotes the growth of new blood vessels and stimulate other growth factors in the tissue.

There have been numerous studies done on the use of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (LI-ESWT) to treat ED and the results are consistently positive.  One study shows that shockwave therapy to remove micro-plaque that builds up in the blood vessels of the penis.

Is Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (LI-ESWT) right for you?
